A New Dance in God’s Timing
When grace leads, even the steps you never expected become holy ground.
The Beauty of What’s Been
Every day I think about the changes my life has seen over the years. I look at my daughters, two strong, beautiful women who have grown into everything I ever prayed they’d be. They have adventurous souls, entrepreneurial spirits, and hearts full of joy. They’ve carved out their own paths with courage and grace, and every time I watch their lives unfold, I can’t help but smile as my heart swells with pride.
They used to tell me they never wanted to disappoint me, but looking at them now, I can honestly say they’ve far surpassed any expectation. There’s not a trace of disappointment in sight, just pride that could reach the heavens.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28
And then there’s my beautiful bonus daughter and granddaughter. What blessings they, too, are to my world. They bring laughter and light that fills the hollow places in my heart, whether it’s a quick-witted joke, a burst of sass and sparkle, or a shared giggle that turns into a full-blown laugh that makes the dog stare. They remind me that joy isn’t something you have to go searching for; sometimes it comes barreling toward you with messy hair, sticky fingers, and a grin that feels like sunshine.
“A cheerful heart is good medicine.” Proverbs 17:22
God’s Fingerprints on My Journey
When I think about all the mistakes I made over the years, the lessons learned the hard way, the tears, the triumphs, I realize that somehow, through all of it, God had His hand on me. He walked me through parenthood, often alone, but never without His presence.
I didn’t always see His guidance in the moment, but when I look back now, I can trace His fingerprints across every chapter of my life. The challenges, the joys, the quiet in-betweens, they’ve become the many colors of the tapestry of my life. And I wouldn’t remove a single dark thread, because each one shaped me into the woman I am today.
“The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.” Isaiah 58:11
The Friends Who Stayed
Along the way, I’ve also learned the priceless value of friendship that becomes family. Those sacred bonds, the kind that carry you through heartbreak, laughter, loss, and celebration, have been the steady background harmony in the song of my life.
The friends who stayed, who prayed, who laughed until we cried, those souls have made the years richer than I could ever measure. Truly, that kind of love is priceless.
“A friend loves at all times.” Proverbs 17:17
Dancing Again with our Four Left Feet
Now, as I navigate love later in life, I’ve discovered it’s a bit like learning to dance to a song you didn’t know you still remembered. It takes faith, a sense of humor, and a heart willing to try again.
But oh, how beautiful it is when God leads, even in the steps you never thought you’d take again. And when it comes to dancing now, it’s absolutely critical that He continues to lead, because between the two of us, we’ve got four left feet!
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2
A New Song of Love and Grace
This man has shown me more love in a few short months than I ever imagined possible. Sometimes I’m in awe, sometimes overwhelmed, and sometimes I just stop and thank God for a heart that’s brave enough to love again.
There are moments when lost memories drift in, gentle reminders of what once was. I want to feel safe with them, make space for them when they dance in and out, knowing they still have their place in my heart. My nearly 27-year marriage had its share of ups and downs (and a few loop-de-loops), but there was love, and there was God right in the middle of it all.
Those memories will always belong to a chapter that helped shape who I am. But this new dance, this new love God has placed before me now, stands strong on its own. It moves to a different rhythm, one that’s uniquely ours, set to a brand-new song He’s written on my heart.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
Author’s Note
I’m learning that life’s most unexpected blessings often arrive in the quiet rhythm between gratitude and grace. The memories that once held me now remind me how far God has carried me, and this new joy, well, it’s just proof that His timing is perfect, even for those of us still trying to dance with four left feet.
With love and faith,
Marie
